This movie has always seemed to be a blend of both the legend of Bigfoot with undertones of "An American Werewolf in London." Directed by George Pavlou in 1986, this film depicts and Irish farmer who accidentally releases a morbid beast from his underground tomb. The creature, in turn, proceeds to rain havoc among the natives.

It rates a 6 on the "Cheesetacular" scale, but the director seems to make the best out of the obviously low budget.

Sure, it's not really scary. If anything it's funny as hell. I still say this movie should be watched.

This is the story of a couple of kids who have to fight off an invasion of Dracula, The Wolfman, The Mummy, and several other monsters. The kids are part of the monster club, a club dedicated to the lore and knowledge of different monsters (yes, this makes them dorks at their school). When the monsters attack it's only the members of the club that know how to deal with it.

I won't spoil the movie for you by giving details. It's just a fun playful romp in the monster genre. It's not too serious a movie and certainly isn't going to scare you... but do we really need blood and guts all the time? Rent this, sit back, and remember back to your own childhood when monsters were your interest too.

Five out of five stars.

If most Grindhouse movies are B movies, is it possible to call this one a D movie?

The premise is that three people are in Brazil and they're going to a remote location. On the way the hero of the story witnesses a Voodoo ritual that gives him the ability to raise the dead into zombies, though he doesn't realize it until much too late for his own good. On their way to the remote location their car breaks down and some good Samaritans give them a place to stay until they can fix the Jeep. That's when the zombies the hero raised attack.

I got to the first zombie resurrection scene and turned the show off. The plot is extremely slow, so slow you have no interest in sitting any longer to see if it will ever pick up. The first resurrection scene takes place at about thirty minutes in. It's CHEESY. The first zombie out of the ground is the classic hand raising through the dirt, but the hand is a worker's glove dyed black and has a latex skeleton print on it.

You can't make this up. I am not kidding.

I made it 35 minutes into the film and shut it off. This movie gets a negative two out of five stars.

Jack-O, released in 1995, and directed by an unknown Steve Latshaw, is the embodiment of complete garbage, and, quite frankly, a waste of film equipment. After a wizard of sorts is executed in the early 1900s', a terrible curse is placed on the family and its predecessors involving a scythe-wielding maniac with a pumpkin's head. I know...pretty close to tempting...

Within the first 20 minutes of this film, I found myself going face-first into the desk. Fully equipped with poor, non-artistically blurred film quality, Spencer Gifts style props, female actors that appeared to have been recruited directly from the perfume sales counter of Sears, circa 1888, and effects that rival a mid-west high school's theatre department, this flick is enough to make even the most hardcore B movie fan sob with disappointment.

I believe the worst aspect, as a whole, was the director's attempt to add an element of surrealism, at which he failed miserably. The only appealing aspect was the presence of veteran actor, John Carradine, who played his typical role of "diabolically creepy old man". Without a doubt in my mind, this film receives a hearty Grindhouse "thumbs down."

I, personally, would have been more entertained by reading Foxes Book Of Martyrs....

Ahhh, yes...another evening of reckless film experimentation...

I just got my hands on a copy of a gore flick, directed in 1991, called "Begotten." Apparently, the director, E. Elias Merhige based the film on his personal experiences after a car accident at the age of 19. Before today, I had no idea that this movie even existed, but the synopsis leaves promises of the disembowelment of God and cannibalism. Enough said.

With that being said, I shall lay my ears back and force this gem into play--only to return with my official review later.

Wish me luck, peeps and creeps!

I watched this movie with my cousin when we were high schoolers. It was ok, not that great most of the way through the movie. You basically have to wait through an hour of boring crap before the goods are delivered.

Plot Synopsis:

A woman is worried about what her husband is up to so she hires a private investigator to tail him. He finds out that the husband is involved in some chemical experiments to bring dead bodies back to life. As it always is, the resurrected bodies turn to monsters. The husband keeps the experiments in a cave below the house but when the wife and private dick uncover the truth they accidentally let the monsters loose.

By 1992's standards, the special effects are horrible. The monsters are pretty obviously puppets and woochies. Even the blood doesn't look realistic. However, I was able to look past that and have a decent time with it.

It's not the greatest, but it's one you should probably see just for the fun of it.

This is the first in a series of films that comes closer to the idea of "snuff" than any film that Ive never experienced. Set in a series of everyday locations, director, Fred Vogel, brings the element of realistic terror closer to home.

Although this particular film is a bit drawn out, the amount of unadulterated, gut wrenching scenes of death portrayed so nonchalantly, more than makes up for it...

Its as if two sociopaths that appear to be your average frat boys decide to go on a drunken road trip, and just happen capture their mass murdering spree on film. Blood fetish, necrophilia, lack of compassion for human life, and the music of what I'm assuming to be local metal bands...its all in the mix.

For more information, visit Toetag Pictures

My mother has always been quite open with allowing me to see and experience real life and all that it involved. Therefore,I was allowed to watch R rated films to the envy of my friends. A remake of the 1942 version, "Cat People" is the story of a young, naive woman coming to New Orleans to meet her brother for the first time, and soon discovers the dark secret of her ancestry. The soundtrack was covered by David Bowie which, to me, offers the director additional snaps.

The films stars Malcom McDowell and Natasha Kinski, daughter of veteran actor, Claus Kinski, and was released in 1982.

I have actually met very few people who have heard of, let alone seen this film.

In a nutshell, the movie involves a tree-hugging scientist who's experiment goes seriously wrong.

Other than my uncle's constant cat calls in reference to Adrienne Barbeau's large breasts, the scene that I remember most, is a character named "Ferret" played by David Hess, having his skull crushed by the Swamp creature's hand. I was about four years old and this movie scared the hell out of me. I still won't watch it at night.

Synopsis:

Two American teenagers are backpacking across Europe when one is attacked by a wolf and bitten. The other is killed by the wolf. The one that escaped with only a bite turns into a werewolf, as it was not just a wolf but a werewolf that attacked them. The new werewolf terrorizes London for some time until he is finally killed with a silver bullet. Through the movie the survivor is haunted by the decomposing corpses of those he kills and that of his friend.

Though it was released in 1981, Rick Baker's makeup was phenomenal. The graphic special effects were top notch by the standards set in 1981. The film won an Academy Award for good reason.

This is the third, and seemingly final installment of Fred Vogel's August Underground series, and comes to us with scenes of Yuletide cheer. This time around, we're down to the characters portrayed by Whiles and Vogel, but, fret not--there is still enough gore to necessitate a small colony the size of Malaysia.

This particular film was a bit vague in some areas, initially, but it all seems to come together with a bit of rationality in the end. In addition to the antics of the usual suspects, we have the disembowelment of a woman who seems to be in the last trimester of pregnancy, incest, and a complete mockery and bastardization of the average suburban family celebrating the holiday season. Nothing expresses holiday warmth like murder, mayhem, and necrophilia.

All in all, friend Vogel has impressed me, personally, with his willingness to completely leap over the boundaries of the horror genre as we know it.

This is the second film in Fred Vogel's August Underground series. It seems that the morbid antics of the characters grow exponentially worse as the movies progress. In addition to the two original sociopaths, we have a punky goth chick, played by "Cristie "crusty" Whiles" with amazingly large teeth. Whiles also happens to be the key make up artist for Toetag Pictures, and I must give her snaps for her incredible graphic skills.

This time around, more focus is placed upon the actual morbid deeds than the mundane scenery. Depicted as Vogel's on-screen character, Whiles makes a fabulous addition to the cast with her quirky and care-free, yet murderous nature that would make any aspiring bubble gum goth girl tear up in adoration.

You'll witness vomit, blood, fecal matter, and just about every other human bodily fluid that you can imagine, strewn about the floor and walls of a basement, which is basically their make-shift slaughter house. Moreover, Vogel pushes the envelope even further with scenes of pedophilia in post-mordic form.

This one definitely *more* than satisfies the putrescence in all of us.

Also knowns as Cannibal Ferox.

Great movie! I lived in a rural Southeastern Ohio area when I grew up. When I was 12 years old or so I stayed with my friend at his house for the night, and his mother took us to the video rental store. We picked up Make Them Die Slowly for our all night gorefest. The other movies we picked up pretty much sucked, so we skipped ahead to the movie that had to be rented by his mother due to the rating.

Man, I am so glad that whatever god out there chose to put Make Them Die Slowly in a rural Ohioan video stand. There's so much gore in this flick it's not funny, especially since this came out in 1983. For the first time ever an actually killing of an animal was on tape for all to see. That was huge back then. It made such a huge stink about the film. We didn't know it at the time, but we were watching history being made.

If I had to say there was one downside to this whole thing, it was the breast hanging scene. That was a little underdone... they could have done a little more with that scene.

Other than that, what a great movie.
